After a long holiday, you will need to do some work to restore your home to its former glory. Carpet cleaning is part of that. Cleaning your carpet properly can make a difference in whether it looks beautiful or is ruined. You should take into consideration a few factors if you want your carpet to remain in great condition after the holidays.

Carpet cleaners say that the sooner you react to a spill, the greater the chance of cleaning it up. You can clean up small spills with baby wipes. Unfortunately, not every spill is as innocent. Chocolate or ketchup can sometimes stain the carpet. In these cases, you need to use a different solution. You will be well advised to use white vinegar as it is the best carpet stain remover. Dip a cloth into the solution and then dab it on the stain. You can also use ammonia but test it out first on the carpet.

A glass of red-wine spilled onto the carpet may make you feel your heart skip. If this happens, dab the area dry with a cloth to absorb excess moisture. Once you are done, treat the area using warm water and dishwashing detergent. Alternately, you can combine one part vinegar with two parts water. Rub the solution into the stain. If you are happy with the outcome, then wash it with cold and blot. If you’re having problems with coffee or tea stains, you can try dilution with beer.

Both gum and wax are sticky substances which can easily damage the fibres of your carpet if not handled with care. Ice is the best way to remove gum or wax. After the gum or melted wax has froze, gently pull it with a blunt tool. Repeat the process until the problem is gone, and then vacuum thoroughly.

You should iron your carpet if you see oil stains on it from the cooking that was done for the holidays. It’s true: ironing a sheet of newspaper over the oily spill on warm settings can work wonders. Pour baking soda on the spill, then sprinkle cornstarch. You will be able to absorb the most amount of spillage by using baking soda and cornstarch.

If you take care of these aspects when cleaning your carpet, then you can rest assured that it will not be damaged in any way after the holiday season. You will not ruin your fun.
